Overcoming evil or it’s originator, the devil is not a very easy task, but I have good news for you, it is a possible task. From the book of Revelations12:11 there are three steps to overcome the devil.
1. The blood of Jesus: The bible says, ‘the blood of Jesus speaks…’ Heb. 12:24. What does He speak? He speaks of mercy. How did I know? From Heb. 12:24, we see that there was a comparison between the blood of Jesus and the blood of Abel. From Genesis, we see that the blood of Abel speaks of vengeance, but the blood of Jesus speaks something better, ‘father forgive them…’ you can and will always overcome the devil by the blood of Jesus because the devil recognizes and bows to the blood of Jesus. The life of a being is in the blood; the blood of Jesus stands for the life of Jesus. When we call the blood of Jesus in prayers, there is a flow of the life of Jesus, which compels the devil to bow to you in that situation.
When you pray, invoke the blood of Jesus anytime you sense the hand of evil or any demonic activities. Devil cannot stand in the face of the blood of Jesus. You have to know this and be convinced and sure of this for it to work for you. Since this is the word of God, it works. In Leviticus 16, we find that the blood taken from the sin offering was brought to the Holy of Hollies and sprinkled seven times before the Lord. The sin offering was offered in the outer court in the full glare of all: But only one man, the high priest (alone) sprinkled the blood in the most Holy place. (He is a type of our Lord Jesus Christ). The blood works for all of them even though they did not see it been sprinkled. You do not need to see it for it to work; the blood works though you cannot see it. When the children of Israel were eating the Passover lamb, its blood was on the doorpost outside the house where they could not see it.
The blood of Jesus is now in heaven where you cannot see it; when God saw the blood He washed the sin of the people today. The blood is available to hold unto if you must overcome the devil today. Hold unto the blood and the devil has no choice but to bow. Many will not believe until they see, when it has to do with the blood, most rituals done with blood are not always done in the full glare of the one who has brought the sacrifice. The blood of Jesus is your number one weapon for overcoming the devil.
2. The word of their testimony: – This talk about our confession of faith, our declaration (by faith) of God’s word concerning any situation. Like Abraham, you believe God even in the face of contrary circumstances, when things seem to be going the negative way and you still declare the word of God, the devil cannot stand to resist you. The word of our testimony is a weapon of warfare the devil cannot ignore or resist. When the word in your mouth is the word of God, there is just no way the devil can stand before you. God told Joshua in the book of Joshua 1:5-8
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life… Only be strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law… This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.
One big condition set for Joshua’s success (and indeed for anyone on earth) is this that ‘the word of God should not depart from your mouth’. The word must become your daily meditation; it must become your daily testimony – meaning you must testify to the word you become a witness to the goodness of the word of God. As an example, if the devil seeks to overthrow your health with a serious headache or any form of sickness (or disease, it doesn’t matter how chronic), you stand your ground on the word. Moses asked a powerful question that is still relevant today, he said, “Who is on the Lord’s side?” Sickness comes form the devil, healing is the children’s bread – that is the children of God. God says in His word, ‘By the stripes of Jesus you were healed’. Now, devil has come with real symptoms of sickness but God has given you His word, ‘you were healed’, on whose side will you be? The devils? Which is represented by symptoms of sickness/disease or God’s? Which is available and real in His word.
I have shared this experience in some of my books and articles and blogs, when I was in the University; I woke up with the deadly feeling of fever. I was shivering all over with cold; I couldn’t remove the wrapper for fear of too much cold. But I had a very early morning lecture, it was a revision class and I needed to be there because the exam was fast approaching. I prayed to God to heal me and I believed he had healed me. But the feverish condition seemed to prevail, I said, ‘God but the bible says I am healed’, I did not hear anything from God, but on the inside of me, I knew the word of God is true and that my own personal experience cannot void the truth of the word of God. Then, a thought flowed in my mind and it said, ‘if you are truly healed, then go and take your bath and prepare for lecture’. That thought was from my spirit, I knew it was not the devil because the devil wanted me on that bed throughout the day. I simply jumped off my bed, still feeling feverish, and as if the cold would suffocate me, yet I kept the word of my testimony, ‘I am healed by the stripes of Jesus’. I quickly took my sponge and soap case, went to the bathroom, had a cool bath and before I finish taking my bath, the fever was completely gone.
Keep declaring the word of God in testimony and you will soon see the devil bow down to you, the situation will change, breakthrough will come, poverty will go, sickness and diseases will disappear, the glory will shine and people will come to congratulate you. The only condition is, keep declaring the word of God, it may take an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year or even five years, but keep speaking the word of God and soon, infact sooner than you may expect; you will witness the fact that the word truly works.
3. And they loved not their lives unto the death: Those who triumph over the devil in life’s battle are those who have made up their minds. Let me bring back the above illustration of my sickness while in the University. If I loved my life unto the dead, I would play it safe, I would as some would say ‘apply wisdom’ and never venture into removing the blanket that kept me warm in the cold. But, I set aside every reason; I was ready to even die while trusting the word of God. Remember the three Hebrew boys? Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego said something that every one who desires to win in life must always say and do. See Daniel 3:17,18
‘If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace and He will deliver us out of thine hand, o king. But if not, be it known unto thee, o king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up’
If they loved their lives unto the dead, they would have bowed to the image of Nebuchadnezer, they would have missed the great miracle of all, the miracle of walking in the burning fiery furnace of fire. If David was afraid of death, he would not have faced Goliath and hence, he would have missed the miracle (because it was a miracle) of killing Goliath as an inexperienced, untrained man of war.
If Joseph were afraid of death, he would have slept with Portiphar’s wife and miss the glory and prosperous ride into power as the first Alien to rule the land of Egypt.
If Daniel was afraid of death, he would not enjoy the comfort of having a fierce hungry lion serve as his pillow, another as his car, taking him on it’s back from place to place inside the lion’s den.
If Paul were afraid of death, he would not have been privileged to write more than half of the New Testament books.
Dear reader, if you are still afraid of death, you cannot overcome the devil in the battle of life. Why must you fear death? Hear what God said in Heb. 2:14,15
For-as-much then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death, he might destroy him that have the power of death that is the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Jesus Christ died, through His death, He destroyed the devil that hath the power of death. That is why when He rose from the dead; He said to us (the disciples), “all power is given unto me in heaven and on earth”. He had defeated the devil and had delivered all of us who through fear of death were all our lifetime subject to the devil and to bondage. Many are in bondage and because of the fear of death they are not willing to challenge the situation and call for a change for the better. Dear reader, God is not partial, Jesus Christ has come to deliver us all, but it is not automatic, you have a role to play love not your life, love the word of God and the devil will always be on the run for you.
The earth belongs to God, but the devil has come in to influence the world system, he is the god of this world. God adjudged all things that He made as “was very good”. However as a result of the deceit of the devil (the falling angel who rebelled against God), man fell for his deceit and he (devil) became originator of all evil – sin, sickness, diseases, poverty, lack, wars, killings, unemployment, envy, jealousy etc. God is not the author of sickness, the devil is. The will of God is that nobody should perish because but that all should be saved (i.e. healed, delivered, preserved etc.). Evidently, that will, is not been carried out today the devil who is also the god of this world is all out to see that people are not saved, healed, delivered etc.
This is the reason the Bible says in I John 3:8
He that committeth sin is of the devil, for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
Jesus Christ, the Lord came to this world for the purpose of destroying all the evil works the devil has done and is doing in this world today.
The devil has worked hard to destroy, he had people in occult, and he had people in witchcraft and wizardry activities. Many were called to serve him with a promise of wealth in this world, but the Bible says, “the thief cometh not but for to steal, to kill and to destroy…” John 10:10. In anyway or form, you will see the devil operate, the purpose is to steal, kill or destroy. Jesus Christ came that we might have life in abundance, it’s free, and He has paid the prize. As a result of the above paragraph, I can safely affirm that, nobody can have serious breakthrough in life without applying a specific force. Getting to the top is a serious business, becoming successful in life is not a mean task; it requires an exertion of forces to displace certain other forces. “…The violent take it by FORCE”.
Rise up from today and begin to displace the forces of evil around you, on you side, you are on the winning side
