A teacher in Fayetteville, NC has come under fire for stomping on the American flag.

Mr. Martin, a new history teacher at Massey Hill Classical High School taught an interesting “lesson” (as the teacher called it) to his high school history class. This included asking for scissors, a lighter and then stomping on the American flag to demonstrate what he exclaimed was an example of First Amendment rights.

Martin first asked the class for a lighter (which are prohibited on school grounds), then a pair of scissors, and when neither were produced by the high school class, Martin displayed an American flag and began to stomp on it.

massey_hill_highMartin, who was reported to school officials after the situation occurred on Monday, September 19th, has been reportedly back by the school principal Dr. Adams.

Dr. Adams told one concerned parent that the situation is being reviewed “in house” and that the parents will not be informed of any action for or against the teacher.

Outraged, parents have posted the story to social media and personal blogs to gain attention. So far, no further information has been released by the Cumberland County School System, the superintendent, or officials from Massey Hill Classical School in Fayetteville, NC.

What does anyone else think of this. Everyone should have their own right to feel the way they feel and exhibit those feelings, but I think this was poor judgement on the teacher’s part. Maybe its just me though.
